Modus Operandi of The Strangler
The notorious Boston Strangler got his name because of the way that he killed his victims. Nearly all the victims of The Boston Strangler were strangled to death with items of clothing that they had been wearing- mainly their nylon stockings. The Strangler had a trademark that he would leave with all of his victims. He would tie the stockings, bra, or some other garment into a bow, and leave it on the body of the victim. He would also completely tear apart the homes of his victims, but at nearly all of the sites nothing of value would be missing. The majority of the time the victims would be left in obscene positions, and extremely exposed. Most of the women that The Strangler targeted lived in apartments or some form of building complex. The assaults were all highly sexualized, and he left the majority of the women naked, with their legs wide open. This most was most likely done to show a kind of dominance over the women and that he had "conquered" them.
79 Gainsborough Street was the site of The Strangler's first murder, and all of the other murders happened in and around the same area. Two of the murder even took place on the same street. The Strangler's second murder was at 1435 Commonwealth Avenue and his third murder happened at 1940 Commonwealth Avenue. The fact that two of those murders happened on the same street shows how The Strangler liked to stay within the same general area. Some of the murders occurred in the cities surrounding Boston like Salem, Massachusetts or Lawrence, Massachusetts, but The Strangler never expanded into other states.
This slideshow shows some of the homes of the victims of The Boston Strangler. Most of the homes look very similar and are brick apartment buildings.
